Oskanian Meets EU Special Representative, Foreign Diplomats

YEREVAN (Armenpress)-Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian met with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby on Friday to discuss the country’s internal political situation and the new coalition governmen’s post-election program, reported the Foreign Ministry Press Office.
The two interlocutors discussed possible steps for the government to restore public reconciliation as well as the Azerbaijani authored UN resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh and its consequences, the Press Office said.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Semneby underscored the need to maintain stability in Armenia. The two diplomats agreed that stability is the only guarantee of the country’s continued development. Regional issues, and Armeno-Turkish relations were also discussed between the two.
Oskanian also met with heads of Yerevan-based foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations on Friday.
According to the Foreign Ministry Press Office, the goal of the meeting was to introduce to foreign diplomats the steps that the government is taking to restore the constitutional order and public solidarity.
Oskanian stressed the importance of a new coalition agreement signed today by the Republican, Orinats Yerkir, Country of Law and Armenian Revolutionary Federation parties. The agreement is a serious effort that will allow these parties to combine their programs and move the country forward, he explained.
Oskanian also presented Armenia’s stance on the Azerbaijani resolution on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. Oskanian reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to the document developed by the OSCE Minsk Group for settling the conflict. The peace process must continue within the Minsk Group, he told the diplomats and organizational heads.
