ARF’s Lokian, Mkrtchian Retain Ministerial Posts

YEREVAN (Combined Sources)–Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian reappointed Armenian Revolutionary Federation members Davit Lokian as minister of agriculture and Levon Mkrtchian as education and sciences minister.
They join a slate of four other ministers who will retain their posts from the previous government. They are: Republic Party’s Hasmig Poghosyan (Culture), Prosperous Armenia Party’s Vartan Vartanian (Urban Development), Republican Party’s Gevork Danielyan (Justice) and Prosperous Armenia’s Armen Grigoryan (Youth and Sports).
Armenia’s prime minister, Tigran Sargsyan, Thursday introduced Lokian and Grigoryan to the senior staff of their respective ministries.
The staff of the Agricultural Ministry is well familiar with David Lokian, Sargsyan said when announcing Lokian’s reappointment to Agriculture Ministry staff.
Sargsyan said that Lokian and the staff of the Agriculture Ministry should be able to solve the priority issues reflected in the Government program approved by the National Assembly. According to the Prime Minister, Serzh Sargsyan’s pre-election platform clearly defines targets for the ministry to work toward.
Agriculture occupies a primary focus in the life of the republic and it still faces many challenges, Lokian said.
According to Sargsyan, the impact on Armenia’s economy by global financial and economic necessitates a drastic increase in the volume of domestically produced agriculture goods.
When announcing to Grigoryan’s staff that he would continue on as the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Sargsyan noted the positive impact of Armenia’s achievemen’s in sports on the national psyche. He noted that together with the staff, Minister Grigoryan will be able to solve problems connected with youth education and counseling, and the promotion of a healthy life-style.
The successful implementation of programs addressing these issues will contribute to the promotion of a healthy society, Sargsyan stressed.
Armenia’s successful participation in the 2008 Beijing Olympics is high on the agenda of the Sport and Youth Ministry Grigoryan said. The Minister assured that he will make every effort to work with his staff to accomplish the tasks posed by the Government.
