Hamazkayin Marks 80th Anniversary in Armenia

Culture Minister Hasmig Poghosian presents gold medal to Hamazkayin's Mgrdich Mgrdichian

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The Hamazkayin educational and cultural organization celebrated its 80th anniversary Tuesday with a gala concert Spenderian Opera Hall with the Hamazkayin Cenral Executive and representatives of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, various Hamazkayin regions, political parties, cultural and other organizations, as well as cultural figures.
Davit Sargsyan, the prime minister’s chief of staff presented Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan’s (no relation) congratulatory message.
Armenia’s Minister of Culture Hasmig Poghosian, in congratulating the 80th anniversary said that culture is the environment in which dialogue and unity can be created, adding that purpose of Hamazkayin’s creation was to spread the message of unity through preserving the Armenian heritage.
Posghosian also noted that the Hamazkayin Armenia organization works closely with the Culture Ministry and as a gesture of gratitude for the organization’s activities, presented the organization with the Culture Ministry’s gold medal.
Central Executive Chairman Mgrdich Mgrdichian accepted the medal, saying it brought an urgent impetus to the organization’s activities.
He provided a brief history of the Hamazkayin, which was founded on May 28, 1928 in Cairo by Nigol Aghbalian, Hamo Ohanjanian and Levon Shant.
Its mission Mgrdichian said, was preserving and elevating Armenian culture in the Diaspora and assisting holemand in its cultural and educational needs.
Performing at the concert were the Friendship Ensemble (Artistic director, Norair Mehrabyan), the Yerevan Chamber Chorus (Artistic director, Harutiun Topikyan), the Cadance Ensemble (Artistic director, Armen Babakhanyan), Sayat Nova Ensemble (Artistic director Tovmas Poghosyan), Armenia’s State Television and Radio’s Arevik Ensemble (Artistic director Armen Divanyan), the Oshagan Armenian Medieval Music Ensembe (Artistic director Grigor Arakelyan) and other performers.
Topikyan and Babakhanyan were awarded the Cultural Ministry’s gold medal for their role in strengthening Armenia-Diaspora cultural ties.
