International Karabakh Conference Discusses Recognition Drive

STEPANAKERT (ArmRadio)-An international conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Karabakh Movement kicked off in the National Assembly of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on Friday.
The conference, entitled, "Karabakh Movement: Realities and Perspectives," is featuring presentations by political scientists from Russia, the US, Germany, Greece, Belgium, Iran and Armenia, as well as the unrecognized republics of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Transdniestria. It will be divided into three sessions. The first session will discuss the historical and legal bases of the self-determination of Nagorno Karabakh and how it relates to international law. The second session is dedicated to the peculiarities of international understanding of the Karabakh issue and contemporary geopolitical developmen’s that affect the republic. The third part of the conference will look at the challenges posed by information to the Karabakh settlement process.
"It is necessary to seriously analyze the negotiation process on the Karabakh conflict settlement and the overall situation," said Karabakh National Assembly Speaker Ashot Ghulyan. "We hope that during the conference we will manage to find new ways to activate the drive to find a resolution to the conflict."
