President Introduces New Police Chief

YEREVAN (Armenpress)-Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian introduced new Armenian Police Chief Alik Sarkisian on Friday to the leadership of Armenia’s police agency.
The Presidents Press Office told Armenpress that Sarkisian thanked the former Police Chief Hayk Harutyunian for his years of service. He headed the police agency for 9 years, first as interior minister and then as chief of police. Harutyunian held high-ranking positions in the system for over 16 years.
But no post is eternal and changes are needed, Sarkisian said, adding that government valued the career of Harutyunian, who had received many medals and was promoted to the rank of Major General. He can be proud of his record, the president said.
According to the president, the new police chief, Alik Sarkisian, moved from police to serve in other sectors eight years ago displaying himself as an organizer, a man who is able to solve the tasks put before him.
Sarkisian expressed confidence that the new police chief would be able to improve on the agency’s efforts to become even more professional.
Harutyunian thanked the president for his confidence in him and said that he is well aware of the importance of his new job, its burden and the great responsibility. Harutyunian promised to spare no efforts and energy to work with his colleagues to strengthen public order and fight against crime.
He said he will do everything to maintain the human and professional dignity of every police officer and resolve their legal and social problems.
As the new police chief, Harutyunian said his main goal, would be to raise the trust of the people in their police.
