BAKU (Armenpress)–Azeri Defense Minister Safar Abiyev said Monday that if a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is not found Azerbaijan may choose other ways to “liberate the occupied regions.”
He made the statement during a meeting with the newly appointed ambassador of Pakistan to Azerbaijan.
Meanwhile, Khazar Ibrahim, a spokesman for the Azeri Foreign Ministry, said Monday that the latest talks between the Armenian and Azeri foreign ministers in Moscow Friday did not result in any breakthrough in the process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution.
He said the significance of that meeting was that the process of negotiations was continuing, however, he added “we can not speak about progress.”
Speaking at a new conference in Baku he said Azerbaijan’ position remained unchanged.
“We are for the phased conflict resolution option. All Armenian troops must withdraw from occupied Azeri territories, refugees and internally displaced persons must be allowed to return to their homes and conditions must be established for Armenian and Azeri communities of Nagorno-Karabakh to live in peace and only then can Nagorno-Karabakh’s political status be decided. This is the only peaceful way for the conflict settlement,” he said.
