Iran, Armenia Highlight Energy Cooperation

TEHRAN (MNA)–Iran’s Energy Minister Parviz Fatah underlined the importance of Iran and Armenia’s cooperation in the field of energy following a meeting with his Armenian counterpart Armen Movsisyan.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’seeks developing cooperation with other countries especially its neighboring countries,” Fatah explained.

“The initial studies of the Meghri dam and the Arax hydropower plant, as important projects, is about to be finished and the implementation will begin as soon as the required financing is secured,” he stated.

In discussing regional conflicts and the impact of military operations on the region’s power transmission, Movsisyan said that the conflict in Georgia had impacted the country’s import-export routes, adding that Armenia was seeking new avenues for energy supplies to the country.

Movsisyan expressed hope that during Ahmadinejad’s visit to Armenia next year, the two presidents would finalize this project.
