Safarov Moved from Solitary Confinement to Prison

BAKU (Armenpress)–A Budapest court has transferred from solitary confinement to state prison an Azerbaijani lieutenant convicted for murdering Armenian officer Gurgen Markarian while attending a NATO Partnership for Peace program in 2004, the Azerbaijani embassy in Hungary told “Trend News.”

Ramil Safarov was arrested by Hungarian police for hacking Markarian to death with an axe and a knife while he slept. On April 13, 2006, the Budapest city court sentenced Safarov to life imprisonment for murder.

The Azerbaijani Justice Ministry has applied to the Hungarian Justice Ministry for the right to extradite Safarov.
