Two-Day Mourning for Iran Crash Victims

TEHRAN (Alik)–A two-day mourning period was announced Wednesday by the three prelacies in Iran for the victims of Tuesday bus crash in Eastern Turkey. All churches in Iran are expected to hold memorial services commemorating the victims.

His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of All Armenia’s also sent a condolence statement to the families of the victims.

Seventeen Iranian-Armenian tourists visiting historic Armenia were killed and 32 injured Tuesday in a bus crash in eastern Turkey on Tuesday.

According to media reports, the driver lost control of the bus, sending it careening off a bendy road in Agri province late on Monday.

The crash took place in the town of Dogubayazit in the Agri province. Agri governor Mehmet Cetin said the injured were taken to the hospital.

The Armenian tourists had spent a week in eastern Turkey visiting historical sites as part of a 90-person group, Vatan newspaper reported.
