Armenia to Open Embassy in Helsinki in 2009

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia will open an embassy in Finland’s capital, Helsinki in 2009, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on Thursday told Finland’s newly appointed Ambassador to Armenia, Petri Salo.

Nalbandian met Salo on Thursday to accept his credentials and discuss the opening of the new embassy.

According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry’s press office, on the agenda of the meeting was a discussion on the development of bilateral relations between and high-level contacts between the two countries. E. Nalbandian highly assessed the steps undertaken during the chairmanship of Finland in OSCE directed towards establishment of stability and security in the territory of the OSCE member states.

The two also discussed Turkish President Abdullah Gul’s visit to Armenia on September 6 to watch a World Cup qualifying soccer match between the two countries’ national teams.

Speaking about the talks held betwen Turkish and Armenian officials during the match, Nalbandian told Salo that Armenia continues to welcome the establishment of normal relations with Turkey without preconditions.

Salo praised the political will of both countries’ leaders.
