Georgian FM Says Armenia to Become Strategic Ally

TBILISI–Armenia and Georgia are set to become strategic partners, Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze said in an interview with Rustavi 2 TV on Monday.

“Armenia and Georgia will by all means form strategic relations and I think it will take place in near future,” Vashadze said, adding that the strategic relationship will be reflective of Georgia’s new strategy on foreign policy.

The current strategy was prepared three years ago and was intended for 2007-2009, he said, adding that the former document recognized Georgia’s strategic partners as the United States, Turkey, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry is preparing a new strategy doctrine for 2009-2010, he said.
