Nalbandian Discusses Bilateral Ties in London

LONDON (ArmRadio)–Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met with his British counterpart, David Miliband on Monday, on the first leg of his tour to the United Kingdom.

Nalbandian and UK Foreign Secretary Miliband discussed bilateral relations and regional and international issues.

"Armenia attaches great importance to the development of comprehensive and all-embracing relations with Great Britain," Nalbandian said.

Political dialogue and economic relations between the two countries have great potential for development, he said, adding that the development of relations along those lines is one of the primary issues of cooperation between the two countries.

The two foreign ministers discussed the settlement of regional conflicts, with Nalbandian presenting Armenia’s position on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Nalbandian also discussed Armenia-Turkey relations, noting that the two countries seek a full normalization of relations. He added that Armenia will continue working toward the goal.

Miliband, for his part, commended Armenia’s steps toward normalizing relations between Turkey.

Nalbandian also met Monday with the British Minister of State for Europe, Caroline Flint for talks on Armenian-EU cooperation within the format of Armenia’s European Neighborhood Action Plan. The two also discussed bilateral cooperation within the framework of the European Neighborhood Policy.

Nalbandian later visited the House of Lords, where he met with members of the Armenian-British Friendship Group. The meeting was attended by representatives from the UK’s main political parties’sthe Labor Party, the Conservative Party, and the Liberal Party.

During his visit, Nalbandian met with Brian Fall, the UK Special Representative to the South Caucasus.

He also spoke at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, giving an interview to BBC Radio after.

The Armenian Foreign Minister later held a town-hall meeting with members of the British-Armenian community.
