Yerevan State University to Open Diaspora Department

YEREVAN (Combined Sources)–Yerevan State University will soon establish a new department for Diaspora Studies, Armenian Diaspora Minister Hran’sh Hakobyan announced Friday.

The news came during a press conference Friday in which Hakobyan revealed that her Ministry had signed protocols of cooperation with the University, the Armenian Academy of Sciences and the Armenian Writers Union.

Hakobyan said the new department will serve to strengthen Armenia-Diaspora links. According to the agreement, the Academy of Sciences will also begin offering Diaspora related classes at its Institute of Literature. The Writers Union will also prepare and publish an anthology of Diaspora Armenian literate, per the agreement.

“Conditions must be created in Armenia that will attract individuals from the Diaspora to move here,” Hakobyan said commenting on the new department’s role in supporting repatriation to Armenia. She said serious issues remain in the “integration process.”
