Turkish State TV Readies Armenian Satellite Programming

ISTANBUL (Combined Sources)–Turkish state-run “TRT” television is preparing an Armenian TV channel that will begin broadcasting by the end of 2009, the Turkish Hurriyet Daily Reported Tuesday.

Categorized as a family channel, TRT’s Armenian TV will provide top headlines of developmen’s in Turkey and Armenia in their newsreels. The new satellite channel, which will employ Armenian staff members, will also attempt to gain an audience in Armenia, Sabah News reported.

The channel will broadcast alongside an Armenian Radio station which is also run by the TRT.

The television broadcasts will include famous Armenian musicians, such as Ara Gevorgian, Tata, Nune Yesayan, Andre and Sirusho as well as Kardes Turkuler and other Turkish groups that sing Armenian songs.

The start of radio broadcasts in Armenian and an official website in February will serve as a test-run for the new TV station, according to Sabah news.
