ARF Cancels Protest At Foreign Ministry in Wake of Caspian Tragedy

YEREVAN (Yerkir)—The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Supreme Council of Armenia announced Wednesday that a protest scheduled to take place at Armenia’s Foreign Ministry Thursday has been cancelled in the wake of the tragic Caspian Air crash.

After a plenary meeting in Yerevan Tuesday, the ARF Supreme Council of Armenia said it will stage a protest in front of the Foreign Ministry building on Thursday.

“Fellow Armenians, we strongly oppose any concessions that endanger vital interests of the Armenian people. By taking part in the protest, we will reassert the unity and resolve of the Armenian people vis-à-vis national and state issues,” said the ARF Supreme Council announcement.

A Yerevan-bound Iranian passenger plane crashed in northwest of Iran, near the city of Ghazvin, just before noon on Wednesday, with all 168 people on board confirmed dead, among them 40 Armenians.

President Serzh Sarkisian has declared July 16 a national day of mourning.
