Yovanovitch to Visit Turkey

Marie Yovanovitch 6YEREVAN (News.am)–U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch is set to visit Turkey, the Armenian News.am portal quoted US Embassy Press Secretary, Taguhi Jahukyan, as saying Friday.

Jahukyan, however, did not comment when the visit would take place, noting that she was also not informed about the ambassador’s agenda in Turkey.

“Ambassadors’ visiting the countries neighboring on the countries of accreditation is normal practice,” Jahukyan said, noting that U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John Tefft visited Armenia this spring and met with Armenian Foreign Ministry’s officials.

Yovanovitch is currently on a working visit in Georgia. According to Georgian media reports, the ambassador met with Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexander Nalbandov, for talks on Armenian-Georgian relations and other regional issues.

So, the lesson is that it is important to accept accreditation only from an ambassador to Armenia who can state clearly his/her perception of the Armenian Genocide.
