GUAM Regional Alliance Says Karabakh on Agenda

2570TBILISI (—GUAM, a regional alliance between Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova, issued a statement on Tuesday reaffirming the organization’s intention to keep the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on its agenda. The statement followed a two day meeting of its Parliamentary Assembly in the Georgian capital.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, the head of Azerbaijan’s delegation to GUAM, Elton Mammadov, said the Karabakh conflict “will always be on the agenda in terms of regional security.” According to him, Azerbaijan seeks a resolution to the conflict “in line with the documents adopted by international structures.”

“The fourth plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly, held on 9-10 November in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, was effective and fruitful,” Mammadov said, adding that a delegation from the Baltic Assembly, another regional bloc, also attended.

“This is great progress, as for various reasons the fourth session had been due since the beginning of 2006,” Mammadov said.
