YEREVAN–The Armenian Diaspora Ministry issued an open letter to Armenians in the Diaspora on Friday presenting its revamped ‘Ari Tun’ program, which organizes Diaspora visits to the Homeland. We present the letter in its entirety below:
Dear fellow Armenians,
The RA Ministry of Diaspora is starting the newly improved “Ari Tun” program of periodic visits of Diaspora Armenian youth to Armenia.
The goal of the program is to familiarize Diaspora Armenian youth with the Homeland, help form the sense of the Homeland, instill the national system of values, the sense of national identity, introduce the youth to national customs and traditions, the Armenian family, the psychology of Armenians and support the strengthening of relations between Armenia and the Diaspora in the realms of morality, psychology, education and culture.
The program will launch in May 2010 for a period of six months, during which Armenian families will host 13-20 year old youth from different sectors of the Diaspora.
The Armenian host families are selected by state and local self-government bodies of the Republic of Armenia and the youth will be provided with complimentary services. The Diaspora Armenian youth groups are formed in the communities and transported to Armenia by communities, schools and organizations with support from RA diplomatic missions and consulates of the given countries. The youth visiting Armenia must pay for their airfare on their own or through other sponsors.
Within the framework of the “Ari Tun” program, the RA Ministry of Diaspora envisages greeting and seeing the youth off, implementing a broad program of events that foresees active contacts between youth from Armenia and the Diaspora, establishing relations, presenting historical-cultural monuments in Armenia, Armenian history, tours to different sites in Armenia, concerts, plays, exhibitions and festivals. The youth will also participate in student programs on Armenian language, literature, history of the Armenian people and the Armenian Church, choirs, dance groups and art groups. There will also be meetings with state officials and well-known individuals from different spheres of the Republic of Armenia.
The participants will be given free entrance visas (within the period of participation).
We are certain that the “Ari Tun” program will greatly contribute to the preservation of the Armenian identity, “Hayadardzutyun” and the establishment of a unified network of communication between the youth.
The “Ari Tun” program of events will be implemented by the working groups and the inter-ministerial coordinating council under the RA Ministry of Diaspora.
NOTICE: Youth who have already participated in “Ari Tun” 2009 may not participate in “Ari Tun 2010”.

If the diaspora ministry is attempting to attract diaspora Armenians the first thing they need to do is respect the diaspora and realize that the majority of the diaspora Armenians speak Western Armenian. The official language of the diaspora is WESTERN ARMENIAN. At first glance, I was wondering what is the relation with tuna and their attempt to build a bridge between the diaspora and Armenia.
