YEREVAN (ArmRadio)—The United States considers Armenia an “important partner” and will continue to cooperate with Yerevan toward realizing mutual goals of regional security, economic development and democratic reform, a top State Department official said Friday in talks with Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian.
“Armenia has been an important partner for the United States in areas ranging from nuclear security to peacekeeping in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq,” said Tina Kaidanow, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with Armenia in establishing regional stability, promoting economic development, implementing structural reform, and accelerating the process of democratization,” she added.
The US role in the Karabakh peace process was similarly on the agenda of Kaidanow’s meeting in Yerevan, according to the Armenian Foreign Ministry, which said the two discussed “views on the latest developments in the negotiations on the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh issue.” Nalbandian and Kaidanow also spoke about Armenia’s frozen rapprochement with Turkey.
The US envoy made held similar talks in Azerbaijan on Wednesday, with President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.
She spoke to reporters in the Azeri capital about Washington’s commitment to settling the Karabakh conflict. She also sought to assure official Baku of the US commitment to a settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
“We will continue the activity together with two co-chairing states. The US-Azerbaijani relations have become the main issue of talks during the meeting with the president and the foreign minister. The meetings were constructive and we are going to continue efforts in this direction,” she said.
On US-Azeri relations, she told the press conference that she had informed Azerbaijan’s president and foreign minister “that the United States pays a special attention to strategic partnership with Azerbaijan and intends to continue this.”
She also discussed the long anticipated appointment of a US ambassador to Azerbaijan, but did not specify the name of the new official. “The new US ambassador will be appointed to Azerbaijan and I would like to note that this has nothing to do with the US-Azerbaijan strategic partnership. This is just a bureaucracy issue. This issue will be settled soon. I am sorry but I cannot say who will be appointed. Only the White House can answer this question.”

Armenia will be an “important partner” for the US long enough for the OSCE-Minsk to coax, lull, and swindle the Armenian people in Armenia and in Arstakh (Formerly known as Nagorno-Karabagh) into giving up lands or making border concessions regarding Arstakh (formerly known as Nagorno-Karabagh).
Where was this mythical notion of “Armenia” being important when Christian Armenian civilians were being bombarded on their native lands in Arstakh 20 years ago in 1993? Last I checked, the US was founded on Christian principles but for the past 25 years, there has been little interest by anyone in the US governement regarding the “importance of Armenia”.
In fact, if anything, for the past 50 years, the US has been complicit on the Armenian National question whenever Turkey has denied historical attrocities such as the Armenian Genocide. Now all of a sudden Armenia is of “utmost importance” ?
The Armenian people in Armenia, Arstakh (formerly known as Nagorno-Karabagh), and in the Diaspora must be ever aware, vigilant, and ready for the surprises and tricks that will be tossed our way in the upcoming years ahead.
Armenia and Arstakh are only important to one group of people, Armenians, anyone else making similar claims of “Armenia being important” is merely trying to lure Armenians into a state of calm in order to make back door deals for their own interest. Ms. Kaidanow is classically playing both sides of the fence, telling both Azeris and Armenians that “they are important” in order to push forward the concessions proposed by OSCE-Minsk, leaving Armenians the only losers in the end. However, this time Armenians in Armenia, Arstakh, and the Diaspora are ready and willing to do whatever it takes to prevent their national rights from EVER being violated again, the world needs to be VERY aware of such readiness by the Armenian people.
Kaidanow is like H.Clinton, every time she opens her mouth, you have to watch the eyes, not listen to the mouth!!!

These US State Department officials are worth a dime for a dozen. Anyhow, the USSD’s interest is to have access and control of Central Asia’s gas & oil fields. Georgia has been deemed unreliable and unstable to risk investing in additional pipelines. Ever since Russia whacked Georgia in August 2008, the USSD came up with the failed-Protocols to have the Turkish borders open. Armenia IS the only viable route to penetrate the Caucasus to the Caspian basin. Azerbaijan can not export additional gas & oil to the West; and Turkey is a dead-end for Caspian basin pipelines. Europe wants an alternative to Russian energy supplies. Russia would not allow Georgia to run additional pipelines to the West.
No Restorative Justice to Armenians –> No Energy Pipelines to the West.

Hey Alex,do you like System of a Down? Looks like you smoke as much pot as they do.When are you Glendale types going to realize? Turkey is more important to America than Armenia! Remember “the war on terror”?,the air force base?,Camel ciggerates? The only real millitary value America sees in Armenia would be covert actions in Iran, and then they’ed dump us in a minute. When Armenia isn’t being manipulated by the west it is being abandoned by the west.AGAIN!
Thanks John Papazian, for your asinine and “progressive” comment. It’s nice to know that we have fellow “Non-Glendelian Armenians” always at the ready for coming up with new derogatory classifications for other Armenians. In case you and other Hyes like yourself have not figured it out, living outside of Glendale in places like Watertown, Fresno, or any other place for that matter is not any sort of personal achievement to begin with and it certainly does not make you more of a “prolific thinker” either.
It seems the point Alex was trying to make was the air of deceit that exists in this and pretty much every previous administration when it comes to various Armenian issues. It’s safe to say that Alex, along with the rest of us pretty much have it figured out that strategically “Turkey is more important than Armenia”. However, that does not mean that Armenia’s lack of importance should be allowed to be exploited further via land concessions, violation of rights to self determination, or regionally economic bullying on the global stage simply because it is “not as important as Turkey” to the US.
Next time try to think before you jump the gun merely to insult a fellow Armenian with high school antics, if you can’t do this, keep your comments to yourself.
John:Im from Ohio. The reason I Re mentioned the meeting viz was some people are so stupid, once is not enough.Never smoked pot,it is a crime and I dont need it to express my feelings.I am 84yrs old.The Armenians played scared eyes and dead dog for years while every clown made light of our history.Soooo, the time has come for me to express my personal feelings as a Armenian. You handle your own program..
Dear Norin Radd, I fully agree with you. It’s a shame how John Papazian is talking insultingly and degradingly towards a fellow Armenian and an Armenian such as Alex P. who feels and sees deceipt from the U.S.’s ways and feels it in his bones. I agree with both you and Alex who feel much more Armenian than John Papazian could ever be in his whole life! Abris Norin and abris Alex. You both are my type of Armenians – real Armenians!
We all have seen already how the US and Obama pushed pushed pushed our president Sarkisian for the protocols that were NOT for Armenia’s behalf, but for our enemy the turks. Deceipt and more deceipt on U.S.’s part – what else is new from the US? Shame on them that they didn’t accept the Armenian Genocide for 95 years; even though they were the first who put it out in their Life magazines and all around their papers, and they were knowledgeable right away from the honorable Mr. Morgenthau as to what was going on in turkey and talaat posha’s orders to kill every Armenian on site in turkey from 1915 through 1923. And what did the U.S. did and do? At the time they took care of our orphans but then for 95 years now, they yet have to accept it as Genocide? Shame on the U.S. and shame on Obama and shame for them to be gagged by the belligerent genocidal Turkey.
The US, Russia and turkey are so very much want to settle the our littlest land Artsakh; what about northern Cyprus? Why is it those so called nations aren’t so very eager to settle the 35 year old Ciprus problem that turkey went in, killed the Greeks and took over northern Cyprus. Let the Russians, the USA and OSCE Minsk group settle the Cyprus issue that has been hanging around much longer that Artsakh.
I know one thing for sure. No one wants Armenians living in Armenia. Armenians must discover the reason.
I strongly believe that unfortunately a modern Armenian genocide is underway.
All im’m saying is Armenia is not on the high priority list. Americans in general don’t know and don’t want to know. This all came to light when, while waiting in line, a teenager noticed my last name on my name tag and says “dude, your Armenian”.When asked how he knew that he says “Ever hear of System of a Down?”.Sorry if my opinions offend but I don’t see the Genocide being acknowledged any time soon.I’m 48 and I count all the people Ive met on one hand that know any thing at all about us.I even had to prove to a Babtist minnister that Armenia is the worlds 1st Christian nation. Is Armenia important to America? I think we’ve know the answer to that.As to the Turks and thier denials, they know its a matter of politics and time is on thier side,at least for now
