WASHINGTON–U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Co-Chairman of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, commended Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday for visiting the Dzidzernagapert Armenian Genocide memorial complex in Armenia over the weekend and renewed calls for the United States government to officially recognize the systematic killing of 1.5 million Armenians between 1915 and 1923 as genocide.
“Secretary Clinton’s trip to the South Caucasus region demonstrates the importance of our relationship with the region,” said Pallone in a written statement. “The Secretary’s visit to the genocide memorial was a respectful act and a display of progress in U.S. diplomacy at the highest levels towards recognition of the Armenian Genocide.”
Pallone went on to urge the House of Representatives to “move forward with legislation on Genocide Recognition” and called on Barack Obama’s” administration to support this effort.”
“It’s my hope the Secretary will show a continued commitment to improving relations in the region,” he said. “Her recognition of Armenia’s commitment to improved relations with its neighbors and her support for a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict in light of recent Azeri attacks is strongly encouraging and appreciated.”
In March, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs voted to pass House Resolution 252, Affirmation of the United States Record on the Armenian Genocide Resolution, by a vote of 23-22. The nonbinding resolution would officially recognize the actions taken against Armenians from 1915-1923 as genocide. The next move would be a vote by the House of Representatives.
April marked the 95th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
Now if only Pallone runs and wins the White House in 2012.
Hratch,
From now on we have to rename Rep. Pallone to Congressman Frank Pallonian. He is a man of great morality and integrity. Thank you Mr. Pallone for being the voice of our befallen saintly 1.5 Million martyrs, when indeed till today having been killed 95 years ago atrociously and mercilessly, they have no voice to speak on their behalf, other than us Armenians and for wonderful people like yourself who are unafraid to speak for the truth in this world. May God bless you.
Nairian
If only!
Thank you, Representative Pallone.
Oh no! Now we’re gonna have all the pessimist Turks posting their comments on here: Things like, “Pallone is only doing this for re-election” and stuff like that.
But in and of itself, this is good news.
WELL – GOD IN ITSELF BUT A CENTURY TO LATE !!!.
IF INDEED THE US HAD HAD ANOTHER POLICY IN THE BEGINNING AFTER 1st WORLD WAR,
SIDING WITH CHRISTIAN -ORTHODOX ARMENIA,
AND WOULD HAVE KEPT ITS PROMISES TO THE KURDS – WHO THE US DID NOT,
THINGS IN THIS REGION COULD HAVE BEEN OTHERWISE.
AS NOW SIDING WITH THE TURKS – AND HAVING FALLING PREY TO THEIR DEMOGOD – THE DOLLAR – LEAVING THE SPIRIT OF LIBERTY A LONG TIME AGO –
THE FLOW TIDE OF LIFE HAS GONE FROM THEM – AND THEY WILL LOOSE ALL INFLUENCE IN THE WHOLE OF THE MIDDLE-EAST – THEY HAVE LOST.
SHAME ON THE US !!!.
