WASHINGTON–The United States remains committed to the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, a senior Department of State official told reporters at a press briefing Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference in Washington, Assistant Secretary of State Philip J. Crowley discussed a broad range of issues regarding international affairs and briefly touched on the rapprochement between Turkey and Armenia after a reporter asked for a comment on Washington’s role in the stalled process.
“There was a one-year anniversary of the Armenian Turkish protocols a couple of days ago, and the protocols were largely mediated by the U.S. government. I was just wondering what’s going on now, and are you still involved in the process? Is the U.S. government still working with the sides, not just the Armenian and the Turkish side, but also with the Azerbaijani counterpart, because there obviously are some objections from Azerbaijan?” asked a reporter.
Crowly responded with a brief statement, saying: “We remain committed to resolving these issues. It was something that Secretary Clinton discussed last month at the UN with a wide range of leaders, and we remain committed to it.”
The State Department official did not elaborate.

Failure to elaborate means that there is effectively no answer. The US has no further need of the protocols until next April. You are likely to see some sudden movement, a church or two restored as museums, a conference, and further delays in genocide recognition and blockade removal. The solution, I think, should focus on Georgia and forcing it to concede on its tariffs.
