Acclaimed Tenor Plácido Domingo to Perform in Armenia

YEREVAN (Combined Sources)—World Renowned Spanish tenor and conductor Plácido Domingo arrived in Armenia on Tuesday, where he is scheduled to perform at a concert in Yerevan’s Karen Demirchyan Sport & Concert Complex on Friday, Panorama reported.

According to the Armenian Weekly, Domingo’s performance will have two parts; the first will focus on classical music and the second on Napolitan. The Weekly reported earlier last month that Domingo may be accompanied by the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia, conducted by Israel Gursky.

Domingo was initially scheduled to arrive in Yerevan on November 15 as part of the Yerevan Perspectives 11th International Music Festival, according to the Armenian Weekly. The annual festival began in 2000 and features world renown soloists, conductors, composers, and orchestras covering various genres of music, including classical, contemporary, and jazz.

Last month, the festival brought Joe Cocker, a Grammy, Golden Globe, and Academy Award-winning blues/rock performer to Yerevan to perform at the Demirchyan Complex.

Goran Bregovic, along with his Wedding and Funeral Orchestra, will also take the stage on Friday alongside Domingo, as well as Grammy award-winning soprano Maria Martinez.

One of “The Three Tenors,” Domingo also conducts operas and serves as the general director of the Washington National Opera and Los Angeles Opera.

Domingo has won nine Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards. He has received many other awards and honorary doctorates, including an Honorary Knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II, the United States Presidential Medal of Freedom, and France’s Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur.

Tickets for the concert start at 20,000 AMD and range up to 150,000 AMD.
