SHERMAN OAKS, CA – The Lincy Foundation announced on Friday that it has once again contributed $125,000 to the C. & E. Merdinian Armenian Evangelical School.
The school was notified of the grant in a letter received just before Christmas from Lincy Foundation President Jay Rakow and Vice President Harout Sassounian.
The Merdinian School thanked the Lincy Foundation for the donation in a statement released on Friday. “The Merdinian School Family, including the Board of Directors, PTO, Ladies’ Auxiliary, administration, faculty, staff and the student body, are extremely grateful for having the significant support of the Lincy Foundation in our march forward, we look ahead to even a brighter future,” the school said.
The grant is the latest donation to an Armenian school in the United States by the Lincy Foundation.
Established in 1982, Merdinian educates Armenian children ages 3-13, from preschool through 8th grade. It offers a rich program in Armenian Language, History and Religion, as well as subjects required by the California Department of Education.

Wonderful, another large lump of cash for yet another private Armenian school in the US that is already charging its students a hefty monthly fee for attendance while Armenian children in rural Armenia and Arstakh do not have desks to write on or pencils to write with.
I guess yet another “computer lab renovation”, “newer bathroom facilities”, “newer lockers”, and “a new teachers lounge”, or whatever the hell the “need” of these schools is must be more overwhelming than those children in the homeland to warrant such funds to be granted to these schools.
Excuse me, but I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. If it weren’t for these “hefty” donations our Armenian schools wouldn’t be open right now because where else would we get our funding from. Our future generations depend on these schools to keep the Armenian blood, history, and knowledge in our children. And if I am not mistaken, it is our Armenian students from America or any other diaspora that send money to Armenia. It is our children who grow up and fight for our cause. So yes we get donations, but they go straight to our students in the classroom as it should be. We don’t have the luxury to “renovate” in case you haven’t noticed the country is barely hanging by a thread. If it wasn’t for the Armenians in the diaspora Armenia would be a much different place. But for the sake of argument let’s say donations stopped, then due to that the school closes down because it can’t keep up with the bills, then the students go to public schools. You end up losing a lot more than $125,000 in this case because if it isn’t for the youth today, there is no Armenia tomorrow.
