YEREVAN (Combined Sources)—A diplomatic source said that Armenia would not support a request from Turkey to support a bid for the highest leadership post within the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, reported PanArmenian.net.
The source told the news agency that Armenia provides support to friendly countries, saying Turkey was not one. “Turkey has applied with a similar request several times before, but was rejected,” the source to PanArmenian.net.
Turkish media reported Monday that Turkish President Abdullah Gul was planning to ask President Serzh Sarkisian for Armenia’s support for Turkey’s candidate for the post of secretary general of the OSCE.
The report, first published by Haberturk, added that Turkey’s candidate Ersin Ercin would personally hand the letter to Sarkisian. This is being characterized by Turkey as a gesture of goodwill toward Armenia.
Ercin faces a challenge from three EU candidates: Ursula Plassnik, the former foreign minister of Austria; Lamberto Zannier, a career Italian diplomat currently in charge of the U.N. mission in Kosovo; and Joao Soares from Portugal, the former head of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
Current OSCE Secretary-General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut’s term in office is set to expire in 2011.

we do not forget that we can in no way trust Turks ( what are doing Turkish politicians in PACE and within Islamic organization????) and secondly Turkish politicians are the most rude ones in the world ..
I mean the nerve of Turkish President Gul, asking Armenia’s support for Turkey’s candidate to be secretary general. He could not insult our intelligence any worse by him asking for support. He wants Armenia’s president’s support so he can use his influence to fight against us. This is absolutely ridicoulous.
Armenia should choose to support from “ONLY” those countries that “Recognized Armenian Genocide”
Of course Armenia shouldn’t support turkey candidacy. Do they think were anxelq hav or what. We should support the Italian guy.
If Turkey seeks Armenian support on this issue, what is it offering in return? A letter? These can be prepared for under 50 cents cost and do not warrant serious consideration.
