GLENDALE–The Armenian National Committee of America emerged as a winner in the November 3 elections–with 95.6 percent of its endorsed candidates winning seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate. In state-wide races–96.8 percent of the Western Region-based ANC-PAC-endorsed candidates won in several state–local and federal races.
All ANC-PAC endorsed state constitutional officials won their bids–with Lt. Gov. Gray Davis handily beating Republican candidate and State Attorney General Dan Lungren.
Another big win in Tuesday’s election was ANCA endorsed US Senate candidate Barbara Boxer’s against Republican State Treasurer Matt Fong.
ANC-PAC-endorsed Los Angeles County Sheriff candidate Lee Baca won his bid against the late Sheriff Sherman Block who died last week and whose proponents urged voters to cast their ballots against Baca.
Among other ANC-PAC endorsed candidates winning state constitutional seats in Tuesday’s elections were Cruz Bustamante (Lt. Gov.)–Bill Lockyer (Attorney General)–Bill Jones (Secretary of State)–Charles Quakenbush (Insurance Commissioner)–Kathleen Connel (State Controller) and Phil Angelides (State Treasurer).
Davis’ win made him the first democratic governor in California in 16 years–while Bustamente became the first Latino Lt. Gov. in 125 years.
Of the 178 House of Representatives ANCA endorsemen’s only four candidates lost. In New Jersey Republican Mike Pappas (District 12) lost his re-election bid as did Republican Jon Fox (District 13) of Pennsylvania and democrats Lydia Spottswoods (Wisc.-1) and Janice Hahn (Calif.-36).
In the US Senate races–of the 14 candidates endorsed by the ANCA–five lost to opponents. Republicans Alfonse D’Amato (NY)–John Ensign (Nev.) and Linda Smith (Wash.) lost their bid for the Senate–joining ANCA endorsed Democrats Carol Mosley-Braun (Ill.) and Scotty Baesler (Ky.)
Key California House races saw wins for James Rogan (R-27)–Brad Sherman (D-24)–George Radanovich (R-19) and Nancy Pelosi (D-8).
Of the 34 California US House candidates endorsed by the ANCA–all but one–Janice Hahn (D-36)–won their races.
Of the six candidates endorsed for the California State Assembly–all registered victories–while of the four State Senate candidates endorsed by the ANC-PAC all except one–Chris Quakenbush (R-6)–won their bids for office.
All 10 ANC-PAC-endorsed California Court of Appeals judges won the election as did ANCA-WR endorsed candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction Delaine Eastin.
