YEREVAN—President Serzh Sarkisian on Monday said that US Independence Day had and still has great significance not only for the United States but for all people, including the people of Nagorno Karabakh, adding there is no nation or a people that is not striving for independence and freedom.
He made the remarks during a visit to the US Embassy in Armenia, where he congratulated the staff on the occasion of US independence.
Sarkisian also sent a congratulatory message to the President Barack Obama on the occasion of the US Independence Day.
“On behalf of the people of Armenia and my own behalf, I send my warmest congratulations on the occasion of America’s Independence Day and cordially wish you new success, and peace and prosperity to the friendly people of the United States,” said the message publicized by the presidential press service.
“The Declaration of Independence, adopted in Philadelphia 235 years ago, signifies the most important milestone on the road toward the consolidation of the greatest values of democracy, human rights and rights of nations, dignity and freedom of the people to master their own destiny,” continued Sarkisian’s message to Obama.
“Continuous and comprehensive assistance to the Republic of Armenia, which will be celebrating its 20th anniversary, provided by the United States from day one of our independence, is invaluable,” Sarkisian told Obama.
“I take this opportunity to thank your administration and you personally for persistent and constructive efforts for the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh problem and aimed at maintaining peace, stability and security in the region,” added Sarkisian.
“Armenia attaches special importance to the ongoing close cooperation with the United States and warm partnership relations, progressive development of our bilateral relations, further strengthening and deepening of friendship between our people and our countries,” continued the message.
