A Reception for Congressional Candidate Avakian

LOS ANGELES—The Southern California Armenian Democrats, the Armenian National Committee of America -Western Region, Mark Geragos, and Brian Kabateck will be hosting a cocktail reception for Armenian American congressional candidate, Brad Avakian, who is running for office in northwest Oregon. The event will take place this Thursday, August 4, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Fine Arts Building in Downtown Los Angeles, 811 West 7th Street Los Angeles, CA 90017.
Avakian has spent his career standing up for working people, fighting against injustice and working to create economic opportunity. Born in Fresno, California, he is the son of Larry and Catherine Avakian, who now reside in Thousand Oaks, California. His grandfather was Avak Avakian, who came to America from Mush in 1898. His grandmother, Sirpoohi Antoyan, came from Bitlis in 1900.
Avakian currently serves as the Commissioner of the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries. He was appointed by Governor Ted Kulongoski in April of 2008 and subsequently elected statewide in November of 2008. Avakian previously served in both houses of the Oregon Legislative Assembly as a Democrat.

Special thanks to State Controller John Chiang, Assemblyman Anthony Portantino (D-Pasadena), and DNC Member Andrew Lachman who joined the crowd of over 100 energized Democrat activists! Brad gave a rousing speech and left no doubt that he will be the next Congressman from Northwest Oregon!
