YEREVAN—The newly-completed departure terminal at Zvartnots international airport began operating Monday, with passengers from a Yerevan-St. Petersburg flight being the first to experience the new facility.
The terminal was officially inaugurated in September, as part of event marking the 20th anniversary of re-establishment of Armenia’s Independence
Argentine-Armenian businessman, Eduardo Eurnekian, who signed a 30-year management deal in 2002 to manage the Zvartnots and oversaw the impressive construction of the airport expressed satisfaction with the realization of the project.
Eurnekian said that new airport facility will elevate Armenia’s standing in the international community and will boost tourism, The departure terminal was the last of a series of improvements made since 2002 by Eurnekian totaling $320 million.
“Armenia needs to have the best, and we are trying to do our best for that,” Eurnekian told reporters.
The airport will better serve the 3 to 5 million annual passengers that travel through Zvartnots.
Eurnekian added that next phase of the project envisions the construction of a new highway and hotel.

Good news!
But how about having a reliable national airline? Which is able to create jobs and serve the interests of country- Armavia seems to be everything but all this!
Now Armenia needs a reliable national air line- which is not operated by an Oligarchy or by a relative of a X corrupt Armenian officials ! – “Armavia” is nothing but after short term profit, this Airline seems to block slots and not able to create jobs and offer a good service and connecting flights! This is interesting that all our officials in Yerevan using foreign airlines …Noon of these officials an parliamentarians dear to ask what is Armavia doing and how comes that people are complaining always … ?!
Armenia needs an airline which is able to turn Yerevan airport to small but effective “transit” airport offers good and reliable service create jobs and more … with such expensive ticket prices for Yerevan, and with an airline like Armavia , Armenian tourism won’t develop - the best what Armavia is doing is helping foreign airlines to sue there “idle capacity” and to offer flights to Yerevan- using the flexibility in Armenia to land at midnight!!!!!
Last year I did book a flight with Armavia (the flight to Yervan was prot good ..but!!)- During the ash cloud I didn’t get any help from Armavia. All what Armavia could offer me to wait another week (- since the airline has very limited flights to Europe. All what this Airline could offer me was either to advice me to travel by my own costs to Tiblis and book there a new flight and use the airport in Tibilis (!) or they could bring “next week” me to Zurich ( and for the rest of my trip to final destination I had to buy extern one way ticket in Zurich ) – disappointed finally I gave up flying back by Armavia … I did buy an expensive one way ticket from foreign airline in Yerevan! …. An Airline like “Armavia” is damaging the reputation of Armenia and even is a threat to the national security of the country, giving the fact that the borders are close to the east and west- This is one more important reason to have good national airline- which takes national interests into account!! Officials in Yerevan seem do not understand all this!
I agreee! It should be modeled after El Al and serve passengers and cargo reliably to the Armenian Republic.
