YEREVAN (Yerkir Media)—World-renowned singer Charles Aznavour, who is also Armenia’s Ambassador to Switzerland and UNESCO made an unusual comment following a performance at the Kremlin Monday, saying that the current Armenian regime was committing “domestic Genocide.”
In an interview with “Life Showbiz” magazine, Aznavour lamented about the domestic socio-economic situation in Armenia and used the opportunity to blast the Armenian authorities.
“My country is now experiencing domestic genocide. I consider it to be politically unacceptable. “Not letting Armenia breathe, the government is depriving its own country of its youth, forcing them to leave. And in that respect, the issue has ceased to being only political, it has taken on a universal dimension. It has to be solved,” said the 87-year-old singer.
In another interview, this time with Rosiskaya Gazeta, Aznavour was asked about his experience as an ambassador. His response, half-jokingly was that his career was advancing successfully since “Armenia and Switzerland are not preparing for war.”
He also added that he did not like politics since that is not his calling.
“I like the arts,” he declared.
Yerkir Media asked the foreign ministry spokesman Tigran Balayan for a comment on the Armenian Ambassador’s remarks but was turned down.

Well somebody has to say something about the sickening depopulation of Armenia. Any government with half descent integrity would have resigned long ago facing such massive exodus from a country. Millions have left and successive Armenian leadership is simply content in just reassuring their hold on power. A common thread of inaptitude that binds all administrations from LTP to Sarkissian is their inability to create conditions to keep the Armenian citizenry in the country. Instead they are all busy plundering the State.
I am glad that Aznavour is saying this out loud, because the so-called opposition is silent on this issue. What is disheartening is the lame stance on this issue by the Dashnak party. A party which supposedly “Return to Home” is a mantra.
The silence of the Dashnak party of Armenia is deafening, and its inaction very loud.
National Treasure Mr. Aznavour’s heart is in the right place. Obviously, the use of the word ‘Genocide’ indicates how deeply he is concerned and how much he cares about his people. However, I have to disagree with his choice of the word. Particularly, since he did not feel comfortable using the same word so as not to upset Turks.
Nevertheless, he is a great and brave man, and hopefully RoA’s Government will listen. When someone like Mr. Aznavour speaks that way, they should have no doubt of the seriousness of the matter.
I think Charles Aznavour is going to be out of a job. Saying those things about the Armenian Empire oh sorry Armenian Government.
Hey Gashamov, err mike, unlike in Azeristan, in Armenia a person isn’t put in prison for his opinion. :X Especially if it is true :((
dear azer-baran, you are a voiceless person in your country. for your own benefit, be more concerned about sultan aliyev and enslaved people of azerbaijan.
There is one thing for President Serj Sarkissian to do and it is to get his house and Armenia in order in a short time. If he is unable to do it he must have the courage to resign. Enough of this mismanagement, corruption, poverty and theft from the Armenian people. Armenians deserve a patriotic leadership but not these traitors.
So where`s the news here??? Good old Charles telling us something everybody /except Avedis/ knew ??The old proverb says its not relevent what`s said -thr relevant thing is who says it!!!
THank You, Charles Aznavour!
Thank you,Charles Aznavour?????Anamot
General Antranic and general Nejdeh gave their lives for free and independent Armenia, but now corrupt traitors are trying to destroy Armenia.
Aznavour just retracted his statement and said it was a mistake:

Thanks.
Who had a doubt that the entire news is a provocation?
Aznavour would not join a camp of cowards who trivialize Genocide with a goal of squeezing out “goods”. Yes, the world is rolling down toward universal indifference. May be actually is in free fall.
The truth is, our motherlands resources, and I might add, the “capital” is in the hands of a few oligarchs. The rest of the people are poor. Now, how do we keep a country young when the young have no jobs, the people are poor, the few rich enjoying the good life and building mansions? One mansion in particular comes to mind, one belonging to an MP, a very well known corrupt oligarch. Aznavour is right, unless this filthy rich start sharing the wealth, the young will leave Armenia. It would be crazy for Aliyev to start a war, he knows that in 5-10 years time, the population of Armenia will decrease and all he has to do is have a “leisurely walk” into Armenia. But I don’t believe the oligarchs are concerned about the future of Armenia, they are concerned about their wealth, so Armenians have to work harder to get a government that is for the people.
