The Armenian Educational Foundation will honor Vartkes Yeghiayan for his outstanding accomplishmen’s by bestowing upon him the “AEF 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award” at a luncheon to be held on Sunday, September 28, 2008.
The luncheon is set to begin at 12:30 PM, at Sheraton Universal Hotel, Roof Garden, 333 Universal Hollywood Drive, Universal City, California.
The son of a survivor of the Armenian Genocide, Mr. Yeghiayan has taken upon himself to dig into the depths of these dark and painful pages of Armenian history. His publications, mostly dealing with various aspects of the Armenian Genocide, are “soldiers,” as Dr. Rubina Peroomian, a previous recipient of this award put it, “fighting for the world recognition of the Armenian Genocide and against the denial of this historical fact.”
Indeed, Mr. Yeghiayan has been able to reach great heights while making an impact on the course of history with his in-depth research and highly valued contributions. He has been able to bring forth indisputable facts and documentation, which have shed further light onto the history of the Armenian Genocide at the hands of the Turks. His findings and his books have impacted the lives of Armenia’s throughout the world and will continue affecting the future generations.
Mr. Yeghiayan has written a number of books, including: “The British Foreign Office Dossier on Turkish War Criminals”, “Vahan Cardashian Advocate Extraordinaire For the Armenian Cause”, ”Raphael Lemkin and the Armenian Genocide”, “The Case of Soghomon Tehlirian”, and “The Case of Misak Torlakian”
Additionally, in 1987, while reading the memoirs of U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Henry Morgenthau, Mr. Yeghiayan became interested in the issues of the Armenian insurance claims. Finally, eighteen years later, he won a $38,500,000 judgment against New York Life and AXA Insurance companies. Together with co-counsels Mr. Mark Geragos and Mr. Brian Kabateck, he continues his legal battle against the Deutsche Bank.
AEF President Alec Baghdasaryan stated, "Mr. Yeghiayan gave Armenia’s a win in the international stage, one that we need and don’t get very often. As an accomplished politician serving many US administration and Government; one that had the vision to see the opportunity with recognizing the rights of so many Genocide victims, the wisdom to prepare, the character to take on the challenge, and the determination to see it through. He is a true Armenian hero.”
Previous recipients of AEF’s Lifetime Achievement Award include: Prof. Richard G. Hovannisian, Dr. Rubina Peroomian, Prof. Yuri Sarkissyan, Prof. Mihran Agbabian, and Dr. R. Hrair Dekmejian.
