YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Azeri President Haydar Aliyev–during an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty–severely criticized Azeri opposition forces regarding Karabakh–saying that Azerbaijan and Armenia are aspiring for peace.
"I am trying to resolve the Karabakh conflict through peaceful means–but we have an uncivilized–rude and ill-mannered opposition. They are the reason for the Karabakh conflict and whoever screams ‘Karabakh’ the loudest seems to be getting more popularity," said Aliyev.
"I came and initiated the cease fire–which has been maintained for five years," explained Aliyev–stressing that separatist forces did not exist on the borders.
The Azeri president also attributed the success of the cease-fire to Armenia.
In discussing the so-called occupied territories–Aliyev said–"the Armenian side is unable to occupy any territory. Our opposition–however–keeps insisting to fight and invade. This is similarly unacceptable. I will not allow that," stated Aliyev.
"My only wish is to bring Azerbaijan out of this situation; primarily–out of war and also end the conflict with Armenia. I would like to establish peace in the Caucasus and straighten Azerbaijan’s statehood in a manner that regardless of who becomes the leader of this country–independence will not suffer," said Aliyev when asked about his wishes for the upcoming year.
