Editorial: The Imperative to Preserve Artsakh’s Sacred Independence

A past celebration of Artsakh's independence

Armenia insisted on Friday that a final status for Karabakh has not been determined as Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, once again, threatened Armenia with unspecified consequences if it continued to press for OSCE Minsk Group-mediated talks on the matter, urging Yerevan to not “anger or annoy us.”

“The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a thing of the past,” Aliyev declared late Thursday, in a video address to the United Nations General Assembly. “Azerbaijan no longer has an administrative-territorial unit called Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said, adding that the international community should stop using the Artsakh’s name.

“They [Armenia] should not forget the lessons of the Second Karabakh War,” warned Aliyev in an interview with the Russian “National Defense” magazine, reported the Turan news agency.

“In general, why does Armenia, a loser of the war, having signed the act of surrender, consider itself entitled to talk about some kind of status for Karabakh? It is impossible to talk about the status of something that is no longer there,” added Aliyev.

“There is no Nagorno-Karabakh. There is the Karabakh economic region, there is the East-Zangezur economic region. This is our territory, and only we can determine what administrative units we can have. Only to us, no one else, no other country, especially Armenia,” Aliyev told the Russian “National Interest.”

He threatened that if Armenia continues to pursue the Karabakh status agenda, Azerbaijan will “respond in the same manner” by claiming Zangezur and other parts of Armenia as historic Azerbaijani territory, reiterating his claim that Armenia and Azerbaijan must sign a peace treaty that acknowledges Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan.

Armenia’s National Security Chief Armen Grigoryan on Friday said that the status of Karabakh must be determinate by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, calling Aliyev’s statements “perplexing.”

“The Nagorno Karabakh issue isn’t resolved, and this issue still awaits its resolution,” said Grigoryan. “We believe that we are going to discuss the status within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.”

The United States Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy has also been vocal in emphasizing that the status of the Karabakh has not been resolved. She was rebuked by Baku earlier this month, when the Azerbaijani foreign ministry said that Tracy was destabilizing the peace process.

The status of the Karabakh was a topic of discussion between Armenian and French foreign ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Jean-Yves Le Drian who met in New York on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly. Le Drian also discussed the matter, including the co-chairs’ role, with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday in New York.

This Azerbabooni monkey Aliyev is so afraid of the Armenians on his own and knows what Armenians can do to him that he is trying to do everything he can while the Turks are on his side. He knows without the NATO member Muslim Turkish terrorists he is just an insignificant little cockroach the Armenians sooner or later are going to crush under their feet. No one knows the power of the Armenians united like this monkey and his late commie KGB agent father Heydar Aliyev.

This Azerbabooni donkey brain opportunist hyena is the same Azerbabooni gotveren who went into hiding in Moscow when duty called during the 1990s Armenian Liberation Movement. He hid there under the protection of his KGB agent father while Armenian volunteers sent tens of thousands of his countrymen back to Baku in body bags. He knows it well. We gave them the so-called “alley of shehids” to remember what Armenians can do to them.

For thirty long years and after tens of billions of petrodollars this little monkey could not even put a dent on the Armenians. Every time he tried he suffered massive losses and ran right back and hid in his cave where he crawled out of. Without terrorist Turkey and his boyfriend that rabid barking dog Er-dog-an he is nothing at all. He has started barking like a dog just like his Turkish boyfriend but we know very well how to euthanize such barking rabid dogs. Somebody has got to put this little barking rabid dog out of his misery. It is well overdue!

Oh, please stop. You sound like the people who said that the next time there is war we will march all the way to Baku. Well, how did that turn out?

You either did not hear the news or were on another planet when it happened. How else did you expect this to turn out when half a dozen terrorist states ganged up on a small Armenian defense army for profit and their self-serving political agenda? And with a former journalist as the leader of Armenia with no foreign policy and military experience. There is NO way in hell the artificial state of Azerbaboon, with all its petrodollars, can alone do anything against the Armenians. Not now and not ever.

Who do you think was dictating and conducting the war for enemy? Not Azerbaboonis themselves but the terrorist Turks with NATO weapons and the know-how. Azerbabooni army was so incompetent that for thirty years they could not do a damn thing. They tried so many times and failed every time. The last time they tried was on April 2016 and ran back to their caves with massive losses and casualties. What could possibly have changed in a few years time to do what they did? Well, they realized they are unable to do anything on their own and brought in the terrorist Turks who took command of the incompetent Azerbabooni armed forces, embedded their military units into that, transplanted fatherless Syrian paid-jihadist mercenaries into the conflict zone, used NATO made F-16 fighter jets, used Belarusian and terrorist Pakistani rockets, and used five billion dollars worth of long-range missiles and kamikaze UAVs (drones) from hypocritical and morally-bankrupt Israelis.

Did you expect the outcome of the war to be any different? My point was and still is that the artificial state of Azerbaboon is incapable of doing anything against the Armenians on its own and that is a fact. Our incompetent, inexperienced, politically gullible idiot leaders trusted, relied on and believed in declarations made by US, Russia, and France that there is no military solution to this conflict WHILE the enemy gathered all those forces together and for 44 days handed over the Azerbabooni government and armed forces to terrorist Turkey to do its dirty work.

I don’t sound like “those people” as you claimed. This was the reality and there were many reasons why those who declared that war is unacceptable in resolving this conflict allowed it to take place and when it did they did not lift a finger to stop it. One of the primary reason being to secure their multi-billion dollar investments in Caspian oil & gas. Instead of pointing fingers and stereo-typing people why don’t you first study and analyze the situation and reasons behind why and what happened first before passing judgement!

Nobody is denying that Armenian leaders are corrupt. Most of these leaders were born and raised in Soviet times and the Soviet system was one of the most corrupt in the world. They brainwashed people that nationalism is the enemy and punished those who promoted ethnic pride and nationalism. These people were raised not to care about these things. They learned to be selfish and only care about themselves and how to cheat to get ahead. This mentality is the exact opposite of how REAL Armenians are raised in Armenia and in the Diaspora. We are taught from early age about sacrifice for our nation and that nothing is more important than the nation and the homeland and we as individuals should serve the interests of our nation. We were raised to think we as individuals are the least important in our struggles and that’s exactly how it should be. I believe in that. The thing is that these leaders don’t think that way. They don’t serve the interests of our nation. They serve the interests of foreign powers and some by choice and some no so much. We don’t have a national leader (Ազգայնական Ղեկավար) who can lead the country with the firm and uncompromising ideology that the national interests of the nation come first and foremost. These idiots don’t understand that a True national leader is there to serve the nation and not the other way around. They don’t understand that they are supposed to be servants of the population and not their kings to treat them as their servants and profit from them. They treat the country as their private property. They misuse their power and serve the interests of foreigners because they lack that national pride. When you don’t feel that pride everything becomes a business transaction for you.

If I make comments about Azerbaijan, as you put it, that does not mean I am defending our leaders. I am being realistic when I say Azerbaijan could not do a damn thing without all these terrorists and that is a fact. The proof of that was right in front of our eyes and saw it for last thirty years. You say Azerbaijan has oil and money. Well, they always had that oil and the money but they never had the intellectual capability. If you take away the oil, a natural resource, their economy will collapse. They don’t have any meaningful industry. Their artificial state is run on oil revenues and over 90% of their state budget comes from oil. They bribe and buy everything with oil money. They bought this war with oil money too. They invited many foreign oil companies, mostly from powerful and superpower countries, to invest in their oil industry and this way these countries will always defend the investments of their oil companies which means they will not and can not take the Armenian side and all the revenues the enemy makes from the oil production will go into buying whatever and whoever they need to overpower the Armenians. This is their strategy. They can’t do it themselves so they create the situation and the atmosphere that somebody else can do it for them at a price. This is my main point that these people by themselves are no match to us.

But at the same time our stupid Armenian leaders instead of firing those powerful Iskender missiles to take out their oil pipelines to interrupt the oil & gas flow which would have caused lots of problems for the enemy and its economy in the long run, even cause a rebellion and civil war in the country, AND also force the Europeans to interfere to protect the investments of their oil companies by stopping the war, were instead using those weapons to hit enemy cities. Of course that was important too because they were hitting ours and our peaceful population but that the pipelines should have been their first priority to stop the war.

You are a fascist newspaper that does not know democracy, freedom. You are the newspaper that does not accept someone else’s ideas and deletes the comments, who do not live in the world, but only look at them as fascist Armenians.

    Compliance status

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability.

To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.

This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.

Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.

If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email

    Screen-reader and keyboard navigation

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:

    1. Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.

    2. Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.

Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

    • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
    • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
    • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
    • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
    • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
    • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

    1. Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
    2. Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
    3. Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
    4. Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
    5. Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
    6. Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
    7. Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

    Browser and assistive technology compatibility

We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers), both for Windows and for MAC users.

    Notes, comments, and feedback

Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs, there may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to
