BURBANK–The Armenian National Committee – Burbank Chapter announced its decision this week to endorse Marsha Ramos–Gary Olson–and John Dominguez for the three open seats on the Burbank City Council.
"We strongly believe that each of these candidates has distinguished him or herself as leaders and individuals who understand the community which they serve," said Stepan Boyajian–ANC-Burbank Chapter Chairperson. Ramos–Olson–and Dominguez are principled proponents of recognition and affirmation of the Armenian Genocide. In addition–each candidate expressed a commitment to make city boards and commissions more reflective of the diverse Burbank community.
The Burbank ANC decision to endorse Ramos–Olson–and Dominguez for Burbank City Council is based on each candidate’s state positions on issues of concern to Armenian Americans in Burbank. In addition to reviewing candidate responses to a questionnaire about issues of concern to Armenian Americans–representatives from the Burbank ANC met individually with a number of candidates running from Burbank City Council and determined that the three endorsees would best serve the needs of the growing Armenian American community in the city. All candidates received invitations–although some did not accepts the invitation for the endorsement process.
Marsha Ramos–"Commitment to service" is evident in her active participation in numerous community agencies in the city of Burbank. She is currently the chair of the City of Burbank Police Commission and represents the Commission on the Mayor’s Youth Task Force. Ramos currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Family Service Agency of Burbank–Burbank Noon Rotary–an Habitat for Humanity. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees for Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center Foundation and the advisory board of the Burbank Family YMCA. She has been a member of the Burbank Human Relations Council for 20 years and has served as president of the Council. Ramos has received a number of commendations for her continued commitment to community service and her leadership in Human Relations.
Gary Olson believes that "together we can accomplish great things." Olson has volunteered for 25 years to make a difference and now wants to enhance Burbank’s overall quality of life by serving the needs of the community on City Council. Gary Olson’s experience and service to the city of Burbank are evident in his current affiliations. They include: Burbank Unified School District Master Plan Review Committee; Executive Committee of the Burbank Chamber of Commerce Board; Leadership Burbank Board–Strategic Planning Task Force; School Partnership Board; Noon Rotary Club; YMCA Strategic Planning Task Force; and the Chairman–Burbank Community Foundation.
John Dominguez has an extensive history of community involvement. He has served on the boards of numerous governmental and community organizations–which include the following: City of Burbank Park and Recreation Board; City of Burbank Traffic and Transportation Board; Burbank Family YMCA Board of Directors; Arroyo Verdugo Cities Economic Development Committee; and St. Finbar Parish Annual Fundraising "Fiesta" Chairman. Furthermore–Dominguez has served on various long term and "as hoc" committees which advise on issues ranging from the rapidly changing demographics of the community to the retention of "at risk" youth.
The ANC – Burbank Chapter also made public its endorsemen’s for the Burbank Unified School District Board–calling on its members and the Armenian American community to cast their ballots for Connie Lackey and Trish Burnett–who have both demonstrated a dedication to improving Burbank school’s through rehabilitation of school grounds and facilities–while at all times remaining true to the development of Burbank schools in many realms.
The ANC-Burbank Chapter will host a reception for the endorsees at the home of Harout and Vicki Marashlian in Burbank on Sunday–February 18th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The reception will be an opportunity for local Armenian Americans and endorsees to get to know each other as well as help raise funds for their campaigns.
