STRASBOURG, France—The hunger strike by Kurdish prisoners in Turkey, started on September 12, is continuing and gaining a stronger and stronger support in Turkey, and in the international arena, as well, where many demonstrations took place in numerous European countries, especially in Brussels, where a crowd of a few thousands gathered at the European Parliament and marched through the streets, voicing their concern to the ongoing crisis in the Turkish prisons.
An estimated 9,000 Kurdish prisoners in Turkey, are denied the right to defend themselves in their mother tongue during trials, and are making a call to Turkey and to the world to hear them. They are left with no choice but to use their own bodies as a means of communication and fight, at the cost of a slow and painful death in the eyes of a totally indifferent Turkish state.
The hunger strikers demand the right to use the Kurdish language in judicial proceedings, the right to use the Kurdish language in education, and an end to the isolation of Abdullah Ocalan.
The European Armenian Federation joins to the calls of European Organizations and EU institutions, most notably of EU Parliament President Mr. Martin Schulz, who stated “I follow with concern the hunger strike of jailed Kurdish prisoners, among them elected officials, and of Members of Parliament in Turkey. I call on the Turkish authorities to address the concerns of the protesters”.
The European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy notes once again Turkey’s refusal to come to terms with its past, and respect the existence, identity and Rights of Minorities – small and large, perished and present – in the country, the oppressions of which are a state policy, violating all norms of Fundamental Human Rights, Freedom and Dignity.
Are not these these Kurds the same people ( decendants ) that butchered our grandfathers in the mountains, raped our women, abducted Armenian children and now are declaring the Ararat Valley & sourrending areas as Kurdish lands.
Or have the Kurds after years of providing murderous services for their Turkish masters have now realised that maybe the Turks were playing them?
Kurds have a lot to answer for, and should not be trusted, as they will always choose the Momhhamedian Turks & Tartars in time of peace. I have come across many Kurds whoi now call us brother and say that we are ethincally close. Why did not they say these when our people’s blood was being split in Western Armenia? Why now?
if Turkey gives lands to the Kurds i will consider that as a pay for the kurdish participation in the Armenian GENOCIDE … because that’s what the Turks promised the Kurds in 1915
The Western world should wake up and defend the values that they have always promulgate, the world is watching, double standard is becomming absolete.
The Kurdish issue should be solved, it is interesting in 21 century turkey deny the Kurds, they are more than 20 million in turkey and the number of hunger strikers got 10,000 people, alot of MPs joined, for what? for studying by their language and their basic rights. Actually, I look turkey as another dictator because of what happning in turkey. the world should support the Kurds and now is time for a new state (KURDISTAN)
Anatolia 1915 – Then they all ganged up against us. The land saw it all.
2012 new world order – Today we do not need time-wasters.
To all Kurdish citizens of Turkey: Distance yourself from the BDP, which is linked with the PKK terror group and is pretending to be moderate and for pro-Anatolian unity and actually accept the fact that Turkey has done everything possible to improve rights of Kurds as much as possible. The BDP is linked to the Marxist-Leninist PKK and Gulten Kisanak, as well as Selahattin Demirtas, are pretty much Warmongerers like George Bush, and Benjamin Netanyahu.
If they are 20 Million in Turkey and they can`t do anything , well no one can !
Armenians are maybe in Thousend and defentley not interest of Kurdish people to get the lands or Armenians are welcome .
Once ,I met a PKK Kurd leder in Turkey and he called me ” Amo Oghly” after he recognised me as Armenian ,, he said with an smile that “our ancestory are relatives ” ! I persist that” Im Armenian and I remember “
