GLENDALE–After more than a month of interviews and discussions–the Armenian National Committee of Glendale (ANCG) announced its support for Larry Miller–Ara James Najarian–Anahid Anna Oshagan–and incumbent Bob Yousefian for Glendale City Council. The process began with candidate questionnaires sent to the 19 candidates running for office followed by interviews with select candidates.
Vice-Chair of the ANC-Glendale–Vahe Peroomian–admitted the process took a long time–but noted that the number of candidates made it necessary for the ANCG to proceed with the two-step process. "We wanted to give the candidates a chance to express their opinions and ideas before we made a decision. However–because of our committee’s dedication to an open dialogue–we knew that meetings with candidates would last at least an hour. Thus–we opted to first learn more about the candidates through a questionnaire process before taking the time to meet with certain individuals."
Of the four candidates–two currently serve as elected officials. Bob Yousefian has been a City Council member for the past four years and currently serves as the Mayor of Glendale. Ara Najarian was elected to the Glendale Community College Board of Trustees and has been viewed as a strong leader and bridge builder throughout his tenure. Both Yousefian and Najarian have demonstrated a commitment to serving the Glendale community in their respective offices.
Similarly–Anahid Oshagan and Larry Miller have also shown dedication to the community. Prior to becoming a non-profit attorney–Anahid Oshagan served as a District Representative for Congressman Adam Schiff. Larry Miller is an active member of the Glendale community having served on numerous boards and commissions–including his role as a founding member and President of the Hoover High School Alumni Association–AYSO Regional Chair–and Board Chair of the Glendale YMCA.
"The ANCG is confident in these candidates. After careful review of all the candidates–we feel that these four candidates are best prepared to address the needs of this community," said ANCG Chair–Pierre Chraghchian. "They each have a track record of commitment to the community and a passion for public service that is necessary for serving in City Council. We look forward to working with these candidates throughout their candidacy and hopefully over the next four years."
The announcement comes a week after the ANCG extended its support to candidates for all other offices including: Aradashes "Ardy" Kassakhian for City Clerk; Ronald Borucki for City Treasurer; Greg Krikorian–Nayiri Nahabedian–and Chuck Sambar for GUSD School Board; Armine Hacopian–Victor King–and Anita Quinonez Gabrielian for Glendale Community College Board of Trustees. The ANCG will be promoting these candidates on its upcoming TV Show–Glendale Elections Special Report which will air
