GLENDALE–The Armenian National Committee-Political Action Committee (ANC-PAC) announced Friday its endorsement of La Caada Flintridge Mayor Anthony Portantino for California’s 44th Assembly District.
"I am honored and excited to have the support of the ANC-PAC," stated Portantino when he learned of the organization’s endorsement. "I know that the ANC-PAC’s support will be a tremendous help in winning this Assembly seat," he added.
The 44th Assembly District includes the cities of Pasadena–South Pasadena–La Caada Flintridge as well as many communities in Los Angeles County and neighborhoods of the City of Los Angeles where over thirty thousand Armenian Americans residents. Anthony Portantino has been a strong supporter of issues of specific concern to his Armenian American constituents and has participated in numerous community events and activities. In recent meetings with the Crescenta Valley and Pasadena ANCs–Portantino reaffirmed his support for Armenian genocide reaffirmation efforts–the California Trade Office in Armenia–and promoting the rights of Armenian Americans.
"Anthony Portantino has been a steadfast supporter of the Armenian American community," commented ANC Crescenta Valley Chairman Arick Gevorkian. Hovig Dimejian–the ANC Pasadena Chairman added that "Portantino will continue the tradition of effective public service in the 44th Assembly District just as Congressman Schiff–Senator Scott–and Assemblywoman Liu have done for so many years."
Due to term limits–the Assembly seat which is currently occupied by Carol Liu will be vacated this year. Portantino has received overwhelming support from education–business–and labor leaders–community organizations–activists–and elected officials–including Assemblywoman Liu and State Senator Jack Scott–who also serves the people of the 44th Assembly District.
Originally elected to the La Caada Flintridge City Council in 1999 with over 70% of the vote–Portantino has the reputation of a hard-working community leader. He is in his second term as Mayor and serves on a number of statewide and regional boards. A devoted husband and loving father of two–Portantino continues to work and volunteer in community organizations such as the PTA during his time off as an accomplished filmmaker. Portantino said: "My family is my passion–filmmaking is my career–and public service is my duty."
