LOS ANGELES—The Armenian National Committee Political Action Committee (ANC-PAC) will be hosting a fundraiser for Brad Avakian, a candidate for the Oregon’s First Congressional District. The fundraiser is being co-hosted by Los Angeles Councilman Paul Krekorian, Glendale City Clerk Ardashes Kassakhian and attorney Mark Geragos and will be held at the Fine Arts Building located at 811 West 7th Street, in downtown Los Angeles. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 5th at 7 p.m.
“Brad is a role model for Armenian Americans who seek to become a more active part of the American political process,” said Kris Demirjian, one of the ANC PAC organizers for the event. “Brad is part of an ongoing tradition of Armenian Americans giving back to the communities in which they live through public service. It is important that we help support him in his campaign effort as he seeks to bring his dedication and experience to Washington, DC for his constituents.”
Brad Avakian was born in Fresno, California before moving to Oregon. His grandfather had moved to Fresno from Moush in 1898 and his grandmother had moved to Fresno from Bitlis in 1900. He graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Psychology before receiving his Juris Doctorate from Lewis and Clark Law School. He was a civil rights attorney before being elected to the Oregon House of Representatives in 2002 and was elected to the Oregon State Senate in 2006. In 2008, he was appointed by Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski as the Commissioner of the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries.
In April, Avakian announced his intention to run for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Special Primary is November 8 and the General Election in on January 31. Oregon elections require that all registered voters submit their ballots by mail.
Individuals can show their support and participate in the event as an Event Chair ($2500), Sponsor ($1000), Patron ($250), or Supporter ($100).
