FRESNO—The Armenian National Committee of America–Central California will host a public forum for candidates running the Fresno City Council race for District 2. The meet and greet event will give constituents and general community the opportunity to meet the candidates, hear their views, and ask questions. The forum will be held on Friday, July 19 at 7 p.m., at the Garo and Alice Gureghian Armenian Cultural Center, 2348 Ventura Street, Fresno, CA 93721.
Four of the five contenders have already confirmed their participation in the forum, including Lawrence Garcia, Jared Gordon, Oscar Sandoval, and Mike Karbassi. ANCA–Central California still awaits the response of candidate George Herman.
The District 2 special election was necessitated when former council member Steve Brandau was elected to the Fresno County Board of Supervisors. Brandau replaced Andreas Borgeas—a long-time supporter of Armenian-related issues—who was elected to the California State Senate (8th District) in 2018. Located in North Fresno, District 2 is home to many Armenian-Americans.
The District 2 special election will take place on Tuesday, August 13. ANCA–Central California encourages all eligible voters to participate in the election. For more information about the forum, call 559-269-0724 or send an email. [email protected]
