GLENDALE–National Organization of Republican Armenia’s and Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region representatives met last week with Matthew Harper–the recently elected Associate Representative of the California Republican Party–to discuss issues of importance to the Armenian American community in California.
Harper informed Hrair Leon and Ara Bedrosian of NORA and Vicken Sonentz-Papazian of the ANCA-WR–that the Republican Party is seeking to expand its reach into California’s diverse ethnic and racial communities.
The ANCA-WR and NORA representatives expressed the growing readiness amongst Armenian Americans to become more active in the American political process and hoped that the Republican Party would recognize this trend and initiate measures to foster greater participation by Armenian Americans.
"We are extremely pleased by Matthew’s desire to make the Republican Party even more accessible to Armenian Americans," stated NORA Representative Hrair Leon–"We firmly believe that since our community has become increasingly active in American politics Armenian Americans will be playing a more decisive role in the outcome of many local and state elections," concluded Leon.
Harper–who also serves on the Governing Board of the Huntington Beach Union High School District and is a National Committeeman of the Young Republican Federation of California–was elected to his present post in the Republican Party during the California Republican Party Convention held last month in Anaheim which was attended by several members of NORA.
