SACRAMENTO-Armenian National Committee of American – Western Region Board member Ohaness Boghossian–on Oct. 23–met with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Greece George Papandreou at a luncheon held at the Sacramento Sterling Hotel and hosted by Angela and Sophia Tsakapolous.
The ANCA-WR representative had an opportunity to discuss with the foreign minister a number of issues of concern to both sides. Discussed were Greece-Armenia relations–as well as Greece-Turkey relations.
Foreign Minister Papandreou expressed his deep disappointment with the outcome of the Armenian Genocide Resolution–which had just days before been yanked off the House of Representatives schedule by Speaker Hastert. The two sides also discussed a number of issues pertaining to Turkey’s membership in the European Union–particularly–a 1987 EU Resolution conditioning Turkey’s membership in the Union on the country’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
