Construction workers in Vandadzor’s Khndzorut district have unearthed ancient artifacts that were buried in tombs, which were also discovered by the workers under the construction site, Armenia’s Education Ministry reported on Thursday.
Among the articles found at the site were jars, jugs and other household items, as well as human and animal bones buried in the tombs.
According to Meline Simonyan, an archeological coordinator, the items date back to the Late Bronze Age or Early Iron Age.
Following a careful removal process, the artifacts were moved to a laboratory in the Historical and Cultural Heritage Research Center for further study and restoration, after which they will be handed over to the Lori-Pambak Geological Museum.
Specialists working in the Education Ministry will be on hand to supervise the construction, in the event other such artifacts are uncovered and, if necessary, complete the excavation of the discovered tombs.
