OTTAWA—The Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC) on Saturday welcomed the adoption of Motion M-587 by the Canadian Parliament to declare April of each year as Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month and to mark April 24 of each year as Armenian Genocide Memorial Day.
ANCC President Dr. Girair Basmadjian said, “This motion reaffirms Canada’s commitment to the important cause of genocide prevention and recognizes that the first step to prevention is to ensure that we remember and condemn past genocides.” Dr. Basmadjian further stated, “We are very grateful that this motion designates April 24 as Armenian Genocide Memorial Day, so that all Canadians can join with the Armenian community to work to prevent future genocides. This is especially important in light of the religiously and ethnically motivated violence against minorities currently taking place in Iraq and Syria.”
Motion M-587 recalls that three of the genocides officially recognized by Canada (the Holocaust, the Rwandan Tutsi Genocide and the Armenian Genocide) have memorial days in April, so it deems appropriate to designate April as Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month. The ANCC notes that the designation of April 24 as Armenian Genocide Memorial Day by this motion is the first instance when a Canadian federal government body has formally recognized April 24 as Armenian Genocide Memorial Day.
The adoption of M-587 became possible through the cooperation of all parties represented in the Parliament of Canada, as well as the combined efforts of the ANCC and the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee of Canada and valuable contributions from the ARF YOC and thousands of community members.
This thing is going down faster and harder than a lead Zeppelin for Turkey. It must be very lonely for Erdogan et al.
Cemal Pasha To a German officer upon seeing the deportations in Mamure said…
“I am ashamed of my nation (Ich schame mich fur meine Nation).”
Minister of the Interior of Turkey publicly declared on March 15 that on the basis of computations undertaken by Ministry Experts…
“800,000 Armenian deportees were actually killed… by holding the guilty accountable the government is intent on cleansing the bloody past.”
Prince Abdul Mecid Heir-Apparent to the Ottoman Throne, during an interview…
“I refer to those awful massacres. They are the greatest stain that has ever disgraced our nation and race. They were entirely the work of Talat and Enver. I heard some days before they began that they were intended. I went to Istanbul and insisted on seeing Enver. I asked him if it was true that they intended to recommence the massacres which had been our shame and disgrace under Abdul Hamid. The only reply I could get from him was: ‘It is decided. It is the program.’”
Erdogan has not recalled his ambassador from Canada, why ?.
United States it is your turn. Enough of supporting the Genocidal Turkey.
– Taliat – said, the objective was to “kill all Arminians and leave just one to exhibite in a museum”
