ANTELIAS–His Holiness Aram I–in closely following emerging developmen’s in Iraq–and focusing on ecumenical and inter-faith relations as well as humanitarian work–spoke with the General Secretary of the World Council of Church (WCC) Dr. Konrad Riaser–and held a working meeting in Antelias with the General Secretary of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Dr. Riad Jarjour.
The WCC and MECC are heavily involved in carrying out humanitarian work in Iraq through the program "Acting Churches Together." The WCC is in the process of addressing realities and issues emerging in post-war Iraq.
In their meeting–His Holiness Aram I and Dr. Riad Jarjour decided to assess the overall work done thus far in order to identify emerging priorities. His Holiness also suggested organizing a meeting with Church leaders–including the Executive members of the MECC–to discuss humanitarian assistance to Iraq–and Christian-Muslim relation. The rights of Christian communities living in Iraq was also reviewed.
