GENEVA–Bawa Jain–responsible for world religious and spiritual leadership at the United Nations and Assistant to the UN General Secretary for the past three years–visited His Holiness Aram I–Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia–in Geneva on June 29.
Three months prior to the Geneva visit–Jain had met with Aram I in Antelias–to discuss inter-religious matters with His Holiness.
Among the issues discussed during the Geneva meeting was cooperation under the framework of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and Islam-Christian relations.
Jain informed the Catholicos of upcoming projects and expressed his desire for Aram I to take an active role in helping realize some of these international projects.
After the meeting–the Catholicos hosted a lunch reception for Bawa Jain. Present at the reception was Teni Piri Simonian–who is responsible for the Orthodox and Catholic churches department at the WCC. Also at the luncheon was Vartabed Krikor Chiftjian–who heads the press services department of the Cilician Catholicosate.
