YEREVAN (Yerkir)–The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Tuesday issued an announcement explaining the party’s motivation for participating in the upcoming presidential elections and officially announcing the party’s decision to nominate Vice-Speaker of the Parliament and ARF Bureau member Vahan Hovannesian as its candidate.
The announcement explained that while the party was more than capable of participating in past presidential elections, it chose other options.
“This stemmed from our political program of seeing a united and democratic political structure, the imperative of resolving the Karabakh conflict with a united front and other considerations,” explained the announcement.
“Today we are more concerned with the unorganized and irresponsible steps taken toward government organization and establishing the social infrastructure of the country. This has created a degrading traditions in the formation of the government, diverting the natural course of socio-political development and has opened the way for violations of the law, toppling institutions without recourse and trampling on the justice system,” outlined the announcement.
The ARF announcement also emphasized the importance of free and fair elections, where voters are given the opportunity to choose a leader that will truly shape the future of the country, taking into consideration national interests and be guided by national aspirations. The announcement reiterated the ARF’s willingness to cooperate with any individual or political force that displays the aforementioned concerns toward national issues and is ready to initiate fundamental changes within the system.
The ARF will present its economic, social and political platform, which will deal with all aspects of government and social infrastructure.
“The ARF’s motto in the upcoming presidential elections will be a just and healthy political contest, based on viable and realistic principles and goals,” said the announcement.
