YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In preparation for upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia– the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) announced today the establishment of 56 electoral offices in all constituencies across the country in order "to reach every voter and to coordinate work." The ARF also announced the opening of its central election headquarters in Yerevan–to be run by parliament member Aghvan Vardanian–and the adoption of the campaign slogan "Let Us Change Our Life."
"Out goal is to emerge from these elections more consolidated–and with an outcome that ensures the stable and peaceful development of the country," Vardanian told reporters.
With its slogan–Vardanian explained–the ARF promotes rejecting those negative forces dominant in society during the last decade–in effect–truly changing the quality of life.
"In order to build a free market for entrepreneurship and to improve the social quality of life–we must get rid of negative influences such as rampant corruption that keep the people shackled," explained ARF’s Vahan Hovhannisian–and defined the ARF’s endorsement of President Kocharian in last month’s election–led by the belief that Kocharian’s policy for the next five years will strive to do the same.
Hovhannisian explained that the ARF has the moral right to demand a crackdown on corruption because it is free from such phenomena. "Unlike other parties–the ARF is grouped around a clear cut idea and is not personalized as other political unions. We are prepared to make sacrifices for the sake of materializing our program."
Vardanian added that the leading economic goal of the party is to create jobs in order to narrow the gap between the different strata of the society–and prevent further polarization–to combat the so-called shadow economy–and to build a middle class. He argued that these goals would not materialize unless there is a sweeping reshuffle of key government officials. "This country must be ruled by decent people," he said.
