YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Two prominent members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation leadership Tuesday told a crowd of party activists and voters in the Kanaker-Zeitun district of Yerevan that the ARF will be conducting a fair election campaign for next year’s presidential election; it will neither engage in nor tolerate primitive political mudslinging
“We do not have enemies, we have rivals whom our country will need tomorrow,” said Vahan Hovannesian, an ARF Bureau member and Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
Hovhanesian and Armen Rustamian, who is the representative of the ARF Supreme Body of Armenia and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, are two short-listed members of the ARF, one of whom will be selected as its presidential candidate to contest Prime Minister Serzh Sarkisian and opposition contenders. Hovannesian said nominating its own candidate for the election was not an easy decision for the ARF, however, the party has made its final decision and is resolute to fulfill it, he added.
The ARF has a clear-cut platform and a concrete plan of action, said Rustamian, adding that although the country has made significant advances during recent years, there is still much to be done.
Rustamian also noted that unlike other political parties, the ARF raises all the pressing issues of Armenia and offers real ways to solve them.
The party will meet on November 21 for a special convention where members will select one of the two men as the ARF’s candidate for the presidential elections.
