BOMMERSVIC–Sweden–The Armenian Revolutionary Federation took part in the Socialist International’s Global Progress seminar from Feb. 18 to Feb. 20. The party was represented by Khatchig Der-Ghougassian.
The Global Progress committee was established at the 20th SI General Assembly–held in New York in 1996. During that congress 34 political parties joined SI–making it the largest grouping of democratic–social-democratic–labor and progressive organizations in the world.
The committee was created to address the growing need for a redefinition and restructuring of SI policies and outlook and to adhere to its mission amid the changing global realities.
Until the committee meeting–Global Progress has been actively involved in addressing pertinent issues on regional levels–stressing such aspects as barriers for internationalization and progress–adoption of an economic policy and technological advances.
The Bommersvic seminar focused on organizational reform issues–which naturally coincide with ideological principles and political activity.
The seminar was organized by the Olaf Palme center of the Swedish Social-Democratic Party. More that 60 delegates participated in the seminar which was called to order with welcoming remarks by Swedish Social-Democratic Secretary General Ingela Talen. SI Secretary General Luis Ayala and committee chairman and leader of the Spanish Socialist-Labor Party Felipe Gonzales also addressed the seminar.
