YEREVAN—The Armenian Revolutionary Federation announced Tuesday that it will boycott all meetings and events related to Wedenesday’s visit by Mevlut Cavusoglu, the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe, citing the leader’s expressed refusal to visit the Dzidzernagapert Memorial Monument.
“Our parliamentary faction has learned that Mevlut Cavusoglu, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), has expressed a desire to meet with the Armenian Revolutionary Federation faction of the National Assembly. However, we have also learned that Mr. Cavusoglu has refused to participate in the protocol visit to the Memorial to the Victims of the 1915 Genocide. We believe that this is not befitting a leader of a major international organization,” said the ARF parliamentary faction Tuesday in a letter addressed to Parliament Speaker Hovig Abrahamian.
“Previous PACE presidents have never allowed themselves to show such disrespect, regardless of whether their country of origin has recognized the Armenian Genocide,” continued the letter.
“In effect, Mr. Cavusoglu is making no secret of the fact that he is visiting Armenia not so much as the head of the PACE but as a Turkish politician. Given these circumstances, our faction does not find it appropriate to meet with him,” concluded the letter.
Cavusoglu, who is scheduled to arrive in Yerevan Wednesday, will meet with Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian, Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian, Abrahamian and political factions represented in parliament and not-represented opposition forces.
Government sources confirmed that Cavusoglu has informed the Armenian authorities that he would not make the customary visits that all foreign dignitaries make to Dzidzernagapert.
In an interview with RFE/RL’s Armenian service, ARF parliamentary faction president Vahan Hovannesian urged other parliament factions to also boycott the meetings.
“Naturally, Cavusoglu was always going to be a Turkish president [of the PACE] and place Turkish interests above everything else,” he said. “For no Turkish politician has reached the level of European broad-mindedness and will reach it in the foreseeable future,” Hovannesian told RFE/RL.
The parliament’s spokeswoman Hasmik Poghosian said Cavisoglu’s visit is a working visit, thus he would only hold working meeting.
However, chairman of the parliamentary commission on foreign affairs, the ARF’s Armen Rustamian explained that the Armenian authorities gave in to Cavusoglu’s request and changed what was supposed to be an “official” visit to a “working” one.
Rustamian, who is part of Armenia’s delegation to PACE, announced that he would not attend the delegation meeting scheduled to take place during Cavusoglu’s visit.
RFE/RL reported that the governing Republican, Prosperous Armenia and Country of Law parties have said they will not boycott the meeting, with one saying that they will use the meeting to convey their deep concerns to Cavusoglu.
The Heritage party, reportedly, has not decided its course of action on this matter.

I have a better idea, why doesn’t Armenia cease doing any kind of communicating with Turkey until they issue a formal apology for Ambassador Tan’s actions in relation to the Turkish Demonstrators out in front of the Turkish Embassy in Washington DC, who were celebrating “Genocide”, dancing, laughing, joking and insulting the memory of my great grandparents and all of our ancestors.
Armenia demand an apology.
I totally agree with you ForTruth. Yours and mine great parents and great great parents who were atrociously murdered; and most of all our beautiful most civilized nation in the world that they annihilated mercilessly and almost achieved to make us extinct to the point of the Genocidal Talaat murderer who said that he wants only one Armenian to remain in the world to have him be put in a museum. That’s what the Turks wished for us in 1915 and that’s what they still wish it in 2010. They are the same sick minded murderers who charged in to our beautiful Armenian Highlands from Mongolia around 1200-1300 era. Nothing but nothing has changed about them since then. It may take 2000 years more and they may still remain to be the same Turks. Read up the Dictionary about a Turk; A CRUEL, BRUTAL, AND DOMINEERING MAN.
No joke, Nairian is right

Hye Cavousoglu is afraid to go to the shrine for the memory of the Armenians murdered, tortured, kidnapped, women/children burned alive while in their churches, bandinado a torture where the victims soles of their feet were beaten till bleeding, and more until the soles of their feet burst/exploded. All this shall have given the Turks feelings of superiority, eliminating a Christian Armenian nation, these brave Turks stole Armenian lands from the victims whom they had previously unarmed – ala Turkish mentality, ala Turkish inhumanity. Cavousoglu exemplifies the Ottoman mentality which still prevails in the Turkish leaderships… or, maybe Turks are so superstisious as to believe he might – just being there – be disloyal to those of his forebears – the ones who slaughtered, tortured and worse via mans’ inhumanity to man.
Truth be known, he brings to the world’s attention, again, a mentality that still continues in Turkey in 2010 – still the Ottoman! Incapable of joining the civilized nations, incapable of admitting their guilt, incapable of recognizing their own years of their history – but then again, with a history such as the Turks, perhaps they should be ashamed, as they try to avoid their own history – instead, they act as bullies with all the nations with whom they are ‘allied’ – currently, for the moment, until…

Nairian and Manooshag et al,
Man, just how low and SHAMELESS can you dashnaks get anyway? Even this has got to be a new low for all of you!
How many visiting Armenian delegates, dignitaries, etc, to Turkey have ever ONCE paid a visit to the monuments and memorials to the Turkish, Kurdish, etc. victims of the genocides committed by dashnak Armenians against so many Moslems and non-Moslems before, during and after WWI? Typical dashnak contemptable comments…as usual!
Robert’s assumption that any Armenian who comments or reads the Armenian Weekly or Asbarez is a member of the ARF is amusing.
The perpetuation of Dashnaks as boogeymen by the Turkish media would make for an interesting study. When did vilification of Armenians (and more broadly, Oriental Christians) begin in modern Turkey?
Robert, realise nobody cares abouy what you think.
Because you are a Turk that just denies everything and just because YOU took all our lands and our ancestors lifes and we want the lands back and a recognition from Turkey we are all Dashags.
Get a life and realise the trouth.
truth*
robert the robot, well programmed by your own leaders to wear blinders…
The inhumanity of the Turks, in all its vile pursuits, speaks louder to the world – than any words you can use.
Today, in Darfur, Sudanese now stand before the world and deny their Genocide of the Darfurians – ‘aping’ the Turkish denials… even ‘aping’ robert the robot since your comments ‘don’t add up… either.
Manooshag
Unlike “Turkish, Kurdish, etc. victims of the genocides committed by dashnak Armenians against so many Moslems and non-Moslems before, during and after WWI”
The Armenian GEnocide actually happened.
There is proof for that. Why is it more acceptable that many non-muslims and muslims died, than 1.5 million Armenians ?
Thats just racist.
robert the robot,
who goes to a Turkey to honor any victims of any ‘Turkish’ Genocide? Herewith a few ‘quotes’ from those throughout the world who see Turkey as a Turkey…
“The Turk, man as well as woman, is still unawakened; the mind, here does not exist; there is only the animal and its instinct. They do not reason; they make arbitrary rules; and then fight or submit. The Turk
has not pity, and it is pity which civilizes.” by Arthur Symons, CITIES
“They (Turks) have no past; they are not an historical people; they exist only in the present.”
by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, TABLE TALK
“Will they (Turks) ever be civilized? I think not. Such a fine country ought to be in better hands.”
by John Webster, NOTES OF A JOURNEY FROM LONDON TO CONSTANTINOPLE.
There is a saying in Turkish; : “The dog barks at the caravan, but caravan continues to progress in spite of the dog.”
The Turkish caravan is leaping forward no matter how many dogs bark.
AHMET…
WE ARE THE ARMENIAN CARAVAN, YOU PEOPLE
BARKS LIKE DOGS, WE KNOW THIS SAYING BEFORE
YOU BORN YOU BETTER SHUT UR MOUTH S…….D!!
Ahmet,
First, it’s the ARABIC proverb that goes “the dog barks, but the caravan moves on”. It’s also true that a dog remembers its tormentor and will sometimes bite as well as bark, hence the serious threat to your country.
Let’s all pray for the tiny little .dead souls of ANATURK transsexuals like robert and his girl-friend Ahmet.
The Turkish caravan still moves on! 🙂
