ARMENIAN REVOLUTIONARY FEDERATION YOUTH ASSOCIATION REPRESENTS ARMENIA AT THE WORLD FESTIVAL OF SOCIALIST YOUTH JULY 23-29 IN GREECE KAMMENA VOURLAOVER (IUSY–Yerkir)–Over 8,000 youth from 100 countries gathered for the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) festival "Action for Peace," to discuss a wide range of issues such as globalization–the environment–democracy–social justice–peace in the Middle East–and the development of the Balkans.
This year–as in recent years–young ARF youth members participated in the event to raise awareness about issues of concern to Armenian youth and to gain valuable information about youth issues.
This year’s festival features over 40 daily round table discussions with the active participation of young socialists and special guests including leaders of socialist and social-democratic parties–prime ministers–ministers responsible for youth issues–intellectuals–writers–journalists–and representatives of the social movemen’s from all over the world. More than 100 guests will visit the Festival. The Festival also includes a rich cultural and entertainment program. Athletic facilities–bars by the sea–open air cinemas–and evening concerts are all a part of the program.
The World Festival of IUSY lasts seven days and is organized every three years. Organization of the event is undertaken by an IUSY member organization from a different country. In 1997–the Festival was held in Bonn–Germany and included 4000 young socialists from all over the world; the 2000 Festival was held in Malmo–Sweden with 6500 participants.
